If you’re looking for a budget-friendly but romantic date idea, Kalamazoo offers many free concerts. Attend free live concerts in the park with the Summertime Live Concert Series, running from May through September. See the 2024 schedule here. Each show features a different local musical artist along with food, vendors, and games.
A few free music series:
- Beats on Bates – Wednesdays 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM. enjoy musical performances under the lights, with a meal and drinks in the Social District.
- Portage – Second Thursday of every month 7 PM – 9 PM. Bring a chair and blanket for lawn seating.
- Concerts in the Park – Sundays 4 PM – 5 PM.
- Festival Fridays – 5 PM – 10 PM. Features 2 live bands, food trucks, and adult beverages.

Kalamazoo has many parks that offer a wide variety of activities in addition to walking, including picnicking, and bird watching.
- Bronson Park – This tranquil green space with a fountain & statues features shade trees, benches & picnic tables.
- Spring Valley Park – nature and wildlife.
- Milham Park – take a walk or have a picnic. The park also has public grills.
- Mayors Riverfront Park – paved trails that are great for walking or biking.
